Nirra is a nutrition tracking app. The information it collects is some of the most personal data a phone can hold: what you eat, what you weigh, what your body cannot tolerate. This page explains, in plain language, what we collect, why, and what we never do with it.
1. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account information. When you sign in with Apple or Google we receive a unique identifier and the email address tied to that sign in method.
- Profile and health information. Anything you enter during onboarding or in Settings: age range, gender, height, weight, activity level, goals, diet preferences, allergies, health conditions, vitamin deficiencies, supplements, and meal reminder times.
- Meals and scans. Foods you log, photos you scan, voice transcripts you confirm, recipes you build, and any edits you make to a scan.
- Weight, water, and supplement logs. Each entry, the date and time, and any note you add.
Information collected automatically
- App usage. Anonymous, aggregated information about which screens are used, which features are tapped, and how often, so we can improve the app. This is never tied to identifiable nutrition information.
- Crash and error reports. If the app crashes or hits an error, we collect a technical report so we can fix it. These do not include your meals, profile, or photos.
- Device information. Operating system version, app version, language, and approximate region. Used for compatibility, not advertising.
Information from other sources, with your permission
- Apple Health (iOS). If you turn it on, Nirra reads body data such as weight and writes meal nutrition into Health. You can revoke either direction at any time in iOS Settings.
- Camera, microphone, and photo library. Used only when you actively scan a barcode, take a meal photo, record a voice log, or pick a photo. We do not access these in the background.
- Notifications. Used only to send the meal and supplement reminders you configure.
2. How we use your information
- To compute your daily calorie and macro targets and the Personal Fit verdict on what you scan.
- To run the app: log meals, save your history, sync your profile across your devices when you are signed in.
- To detect and fix crashes, bugs, and performance problems.
- To improve features and the accuracy of the food and ingredient database, using anonymous, aggregated data only.
- To send you the reminders and product communications you opt in to.
3. How we share your information
We do not sell your information. We do not share identifiable nutrition or health information with advertisers or data brokers. We share information only in the following limited cases.
- Service providers. Cloud hosting, analytics, and crash reporting partners who process information on our behalf, under contracts that limit them to the work we ask them to do.
- Legal compliance. If we are legally required to disclose information by court order or law enforcement request, we will comply with the narrowest scope possible and notify you when we are allowed to.
- Business transfer. If Nirra is ever acquired, your information may transfer to the new owner. We will notify you in advance and your rights under this policy will continue.
4. AI and machine learning
Nirra uses AI to recognise foods in photos, transcribe and parse voice logs, and produce nutrition insights. We do not use your meals, photos, or profile to train third party AI models. Photos and audio you submit are used only to produce the result you asked for and are not retained beyond what is needed to deliver that result and improve the food database in aggregate, anonymous form.
5. How long we keep your information
- Account data. Kept while your account is active.
- Meal and scan history. Kept while your account is active so your trends and progress views work over time. Delete an entry from the app any time.
- Crash and analytics data. Kept up to 90 days, then aggregated or deleted.
- Backups. Removed within 30 days of a deletion.
6. Your rights and controls
You can do all of the following from the app or by emailing us.
- View and edit. Everything in your profile, history, recipes, and supplements is editable from Settings.
- Export. Request a copy of your data and we will send it to you in a portable format.
- Delete. Delete your account from Settings. This wipes your data from our systems and from active backups within 30 days.
- Withdraw consent. Turn off Apple Health, camera, microphone, photo library, and notifications from your device's Settings at any time.
- Object or restrict. If you live in the EU, UK, or California you have additional rights to object to or restrict certain processing. Email us and we will help.
7. Children
Nirra is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has used Nirra, contact us and we will delete the account.
8. Security
Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Access by our team is limited to the people who need it to operate the service, and is logged. No method of electronic storage is 100% secure, but we treat your nutrition and health information with the seriousness it deserves and follow industry best practices.
9. International transfers
Your information may be processed in countries other than the one you live in. Where we transfer information out of the EU, UK, or other regions with strict data protection laws, we use approved transfer mechanisms such as Standard Contractual Clauses.
10. Changes to this policy
We will update this policy when we change something material. The "Last updated" date at the top will change, and we will tell you in the app for any change that affects your rights or the kinds of information we collect.
11. Contact
Questions, requests, or complaints about your data go to privacy@nirra.app. We aim to reply within 7 days.
